Health care|Health care|Health care|Health care|Health care|Health care|Health care|Health care
Whether you are cooking meals for one, for you and a partner, or for an entire family, the tips below will help you form the foundations to healthy and nutritionally balanced meals, every time.
Ensure there is a routine to meal times. This will help avoid long gaps without food. Allow yourself to have a snack in between meals but choose these wisely. Good snack choices include an item of fruit and some nuts, a yoghurt and perhaps a sprinkling of seeds, vegetable crudités and a dip (such as hummus or guacamole), peanut butter on toast. These snacks all release their energy slowly and will help avoid subsequent hunger pangs.

Compose meals so that 25% is protein, 25% is carbohydrate, and 50% is vegetables or salad. This composition will help to ensure the steady release of energy, and will help keep you feeling fuller for longer. Protein is essential for the building blocks of many structures in the body. Carbohydrates are required for energy, and vegetables or salad items all provide a wide range of nutrients that are needed for the body to function including vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients.
Choose low fat sources of protein. Good choices include poultry such as chicken or turkey, fish, beans, quinoa, or lentils, as a few examples. These products are all low in saturated fat and cholesterol, whilst many contain healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that are necessary for health. Fat is required in the diet to assist with the absorption and transport of certain nutrients around the body. Protein with meals will help to slow the absorption of carbohydrates to help keep energy levels stable until your next meal.

Bananas, A Great Snack?

The very popular diet plan I tried prohibited eating bananas, at least initially. I believed it to be because of the sugar content. Now I read that bananas are a great snack and are referred to as a wonder food. I want to sort through this confusion because I really like bananas but continue to avoid them.
Word association with bananas might bring to mind zoo animals peeling and eating bananas or someone slipping on a banana peel. Bananas in the later case are given a bum rap because you can slip on an orange peel or many other fruits. It's just that banana peels are a bigger target and super slippery.
History shows that bananas date back to 2000 BC in the area of South-East Asia. Wild banana plants had seeds and were not edible. The eventual crossing of two wild species led to the fruit we know today. Records indicate that the banana was a favored fruit down through time and now is grown in over 100 countries.
The banana is rated as one of the healthiest of fruits. One source indicated that bananas are naturally radioactive. That caught my attention. The high potassium content relates to very small amounts of a radio-isotope that occurs naturally in potassium. The value and effect of this radioactivity is negligible.

Five Top Pomegranate Health Benefits

Pomegranate is one of the world's most ancient fruits. It's also touted among the top health foods as its antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content are almost second to none.
Mentioned prominently in Greek mythology and literature, as well as in the Bible, the pomegranate fruit has curiously eluded popularity amongst the masses in the Americas, in the northern areas of Europe and much of Asia.
But that may be changing as hordes of people from all over the world revisit natural sources of maintaining and improving their health amidst the dizzying pace of modern living. In recent years, it seems that pomegranate drinks have caught the attention of a section of the health-conscious mainstream in many parts of the globe.
Possessing a pleasant flavor that is at once both sweet and sour, pomegranate is a health food that is rich in vitamins A, C, E, pantothenic acid, folic acid, potassium and antioxidants like flavonoids and tannins. These nutrients are said to collectively act and help the human body in various ways.
Among the top pomegranate health food benefits are the following:

The Natural Vitamin C King

Did you know the drink that is number three in America is good old-fashioned orange juice? It is a great source of:
  1. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
  2. Potassium
  3. Thiamine
  4. Phosphorus G
  5. Folic acid (Vitamin B9)
  6. B6 and calcium
  7. Plus, vitamin C also helps the body to absorb iron
Aside from all the health and nutritional value, freshly squeezed OJ is just plain good. Since the body doesn't retain vitamin C naturally, it has to be ingested and I can't think of a more tasteful way to have something that is good for me. It is easy to find frozen or reconstituted from frozen orange juice on the grocers shelf, but it just isn't the same to me.
There are other fruits that have as much or more vitamin C than orange juice, but compared to the taste and price of orange juice, OJ is the vitamin C King!

The Best Health Foods You Aren't Eating

There have been numerous studies which suggest that while supplements can prove to be very helpful, it is the foods providing those supplements that prove most beneficial. By eating whole foods and avoiding processed junk, you can improve your life expectancy, appearance, and mood. Here are some of the best health foods that you aren't eating.
Algae
It's safe to say that most people probably aren't eating algae. There are many studies which suggest that you should, however. Spirulina is an algae that can be found in health food stores. The algae has been discovered to provide antioxidant benefits, and it also serves as an anti-inflammatory supplement. It has also proven good for the immune system.
Cloves
Cloves originate from Indonesia, and in all likelihood they were the first breath fresheners. A study conducted by the University of Oslo found that they contain more antioxidants than any of the thousand other foods in the study. They can be used as a spice, and are also known to reduce bloating or gas. They taste good when stewed with fruit.

Many of today's popular breakfast foods are high in carbs, fat, and sugars. Healthy Carbohydrates

When embarking on any journey in life, it is extremely important to UNDERSTAND what we are surrounding our self with, what we need to cut out, and what we ought to bring into our lives to ensure success. The same applies to any weight loss, or health journey. We have all heard of COUNTLESS fad diets, sure they work for a short period of time, but what you're missing is concrete INFORMATION. CARBOHYDRATES... we have heard SO many negative things. " If you want to lose weight, stop eating bread". "If you want to lose weight, you have to minimize your carbs!". These are both WRONG. Today I will be teaching you the difference between HEALTHY CARBOHYDRATES, and "bad" carbohydrates.
Ok, so let's start from the beginning. Carbohydrates are basically sugars. They are the number one source of fuel for our body. Our bodies know that in order to get energy for any form of activity, it must dip into its carbohydrates. This especially applies to vigorous training. On a side note, our bodies typically use the "good fats" we consume for very low energy activities. OK, so back to the basics of carbohydrates.
When we think Carbohydrates, we think bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, pastries, cookies, granola bars, oatmeal... I could go on for days. But where are they all different and how do our bodies react?

Health And Nutrition Facts To Boost Your Stamina

There are some basics about health and nutrition that everyone should know but that has not been passed down through the generations. This is unfortunate because it has led to some very unhealthy eating and living habits. Watching TV, for example, is one of those that everyone knows they should not do for hours on end, on a regular basis. But, because of the lack of proper nutrition, many have no energy to get up and go for a walk or life up a 5lb hand weight. With the right nutrition energy levels will surge giving anyone energy they never knew they had.
First things first, processed foods are not good for you. We all know this but they are entirely too convenient. If you want to build your stamina and confidence, you need to make a conscious effort to stop eating processed foods. They are filled with toxins and sugar that will do nothing other than hinder the efficiency of our normal bodily functions. Included in this is the speed at which your metabolism runs.
How fast your metabolism functions is partially based on genetics, but is also based on what you consume and how active you are. Therefore, the more junk you put into your body, the more junk (i.e. fat) you will put out. The more you sit and watch "just one more show", the slower your metabolism will work to burn fuel (i.e. food). Why is this, you might ask. Your body learns your habits. If it does not need the energy to perform daily functions, it won't create it. The toxins are another story. Eating them is like pouring acid on an insect, it is deadly and will stop them in their tracks. Too much of a bad thing - processed foods - will have the same effect on your body from the inside out.

Significance of Diet and Nutrition

Without a doubt, one of the most frustrating aspects about trying to educate people about the significant role that their diet and nutrition plays in their overall health and wellbeing is the amount of myth and misinformation that envelopes the issue. Many people stubbornly cling onto their mistaken and erroneous beliefs as if they are some relic of happier times, and so they delude themselves as to the cold, hard truth which is usually much less pleasant to hear.
For example, many avid meat eaters, when challenged about their excessive consumption of meat will defend and rationalise their lifestyle choice on the basis that at the very least, they are getting plenty of protein in their diet.
However, the problem here is that whilst yes, there can be no denying that meat is indeed high in protein, it typically tends to also be rather high in a number of other items which can oftentimes pose a direct and somewhat severe risk to the health of the person.
In a better attempt to identify the role that excessive meat consumption can play in the development of certain types of health risks, a series of nutritional studies were conducted which identified that meat increases the risk of certain types of cancer quite largely.

Healthy Snacks on a Healthy Diet Plan

Snacking can be a part of your healthy diet plan. One of the biggest battles you'll face is not getting your workouts in, BUT avoiding all those cravings that sneak up on you and whittle you down till you're sitting in a drive-thru line up or hunting for vending machine change. So it's important to plan ahead. You will constantly hear me talk about "planning ahead" as it's a crucial component in reaching your goal. It's easier to deliver from temptation when you have your snacks prepared in front of you.
You will slip up... but get back on that horse and if you feel really guilty, work it off! Do the stairs in your house 10 times... or 25 jumping jacks, sit ups or squats... be creative!
Also, be creative in finding healthy snacks you can keep on you at all times. Stock your desk at work, your glove compartment, your bag/purse. Find snacks that you enjoy and really watch your portion control. Nuts are healthy, but not if you eat handful after handful.

Cooking Healthy Is A Part Of Eating Healthy

Its not enough to just make healthy food choices because if that's all that you do you'll find that it will all be done in vain. Why? Well, there are still potential dangers lurking about in your cookware. Yes its true. It won't do you any good to cut out all of the toxic-ridden foods from your diet if you're still cooking the healthy foods on toxic-laden cookware, thus putting the dangerous chemicals right back into your body.
So what's the solution? Its simple. Change your cookware. Like most things, all cookware is indeed not created equal. Some are good and others just aren't. For instance, aluminum is among the bad. Over the years this one has gotten quite a bad rap, and for good reason. Studies have shown that human ingestion of aluminum can cause Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, liver and gastrointestinal diseases as well as constipation and a host of other issues. Meanwhile, coming in close second on the list of undesirable cookware options is teflon. Teflon has been liked to cancer, elevated thyroid hormone levels and increased cholesterol.

Diet Resolutions for 2011

Toward the close of the year, plans for weight loss are plentiful as snowflakes or shoppers at the mall. But the cold truth of statistics is that a successful weight loss plan is as rare as the perfect holiday gift. In the flush of a saturation of people, possessions and food, a new year's purge sounds like sweet relief. But diet resolutions that are launched from an emotional basis are likely to founder on an emotional basis, as soon as the diet plan complicates life, offers too little variety, or seems to take too long to show results.
The odds are good that if you're contemplating a New Year's resolution regarding your diet, you've done the same thing in years past. If you've tried enough times before, you are probably experiencing a certain hopelessness about the effort.
While you don't want to give up your goals, it can be maddening to find yourself in what looks like the same position as last year--discontent with the way your body feels or looks, suffering from physical discomfort, allowing emotional triggers to make your decisions for you.

Teach Your Kids to Eat Healthy

As a parent, one of our main priorities should be to make sure that our kids are developing healthy eating habits. It used to be that there were not a lot of overweight kids, but unfortunately that has changed and now we see overweight kids wherever we go. The main reason behind this is that today’s kids are not getting the proper amount of exercise that they need to stay healthy. Instead of playing outside, they are shut away in their rooms playing video games and watching television. They have also made convenience foods part of their routine diets, instead of eating more healthy home cooked meals. It has become much more difficult to establish healthy eating habits for our children.

Our main job as parents is to make sure that we work our hardest to keep our kids healthy. The problem is that nowadays, there are more unhealthy food options available to our kids then ever before and this makes it real difficult to stay on track. We have to do everything within our power to keep them eating healthy and make sure that they get enough exercise. Here are a few tips to help you accomplish this.
